November Club Meeting

Riverside Fishing club is hosting a special event for new members at our November 8th meeting. We decided to have a meet & greet for new members joining the club IN 2018.  All new members in 2018 will get a complimentary drink and appetizer while they get a chance to meet the board members. A total of 10 new members joined in 2018
Meet Dan Carney and other board members in the bar at 6:15 PM.  Our club meeting will start at 6:45 PM.

Tod Todd a veteran ice fisher and Ice Team Pro that started as a young age by my dad and older brother Scott fishing the Fox Chain and southern Wisconsin waters.  Todd also has started his kids at the age of three teaching them to land big gills thru the ice. Ice fishing is not all he does if time allows he enjoys hunting and cooking.
Todd has fished the old Trap Attacks and fished the NAIFC with a 5thplace finish in 2008 at the National Championship in Rhinelander WI. 2013 top 10 finish Lake Okoboji IA Recycled Fish Tourney and Midwest Open top 20 finish. Some ice seasons he may hold up to 7 fishing licenses for different states plus Canada and start fishing the Thanksgiving Day till the last weekend in March fishing at the Genz Invitational in MN or till the ice goes out.
Most winter Todd spends over 60 days a season ice fishing and teaching other the great sport and have been spotlighted on Illinois Outdoors TV, Ice Team TV and many newspapers/magazines around the try state area.

****Bill Manders, member of ALH, will lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Bill will then talk for a few minutes and will let us know how we can join the ALH, Son’s of the ALH and ALH Auxiliary. Bill will be able to answer any questions you may have.

****FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS will be collected at our Christmas Party, December 13, 2018.

****At our Christmas Party we will have the Early Bird Raffle. EARLY BIRD RAFFLE, 2 WINNERS:  If you want to get a chance for a free membership, you can pay your 2019 dues at the Christmas Party.  Dues are $60 for single or $85 for family.  You will then receive a ticket for the drawing. (1 ticket per membership, Single or Family)

****We will be serving Uncle Bub’s Chili and Hot Dogs.

****Swap Meet will be on Saturday, April 27, 2019. If you need a table to sell your items please see Buster. There will be no club meeting on April 11, 2019.Reserve your tables now.  Club members table is $15, Non-member is $20.  Admission is $3 or buy a $ 5 raffle ticket for Temple Bay Lodge drawing.

Christmas Party

It’s the big Christmas Party for Riverside Fishing Club Members. 

Christmas Party will be on December 13, 2018 @ 6:45 PM.  If you have a family membership please bring your family to the Christmas Party. If you have a single membership you can bring your wife or significant other (not both).  We are passing out a sign up sheet if you are attending the Christmas party.  Please let us know if you are bringing anyone to the Christmas Party.  This list will be passed around at our October and November meeting.  Please fill out if you will be attending so we can make sure we have enough food for all.  It is the same menu we had last year from Rose’s Catering. So far we have over 70 people sign up for our Famous Christmas Party.

If you have 8 or more in your group we will reserve a table for your group.  Please let me know by December 7 to guarantee your group a table.  Tony (Our Club President) or Sue Lee (Our Club Treasurer) will need a list of all names sitting at your table.

Elections of Officers will be held at our November 8th meeting.  Anyone who would like to run for office for 2019, please let us know.  Currently, we do not have Outside Activities Director.  Will you fill the vacancy?  You can run for any position, just put your name in the hat.  If you have any new ideas please let us know.

You do not have to be an elected officer to help your fishing club.  Please just come forward and let us know that you want to help. Help is always needed.****Fish Fish Award:  Deadline is November 30th.

JVK John Von Kerens

Very long time member – designated with an honorary Lifetime Membership at Riverside Fishing Club passed away August 20. Along with being in on the original formation of the club, JVK’s infectious smile was present many times at extra events, kids’ fishing events, fundraiser efforts – the raffle table and events which promoted our Armed Services. JVK was very passionate about Riverside Fishing Club and will be sorely missed! The following is his full obituary.

Age 85 of Lockport, passed away at home August 20, 2018. John was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, he served in Korea 1953-1954. John was the English Department Chairman and High School English Teacher at Leyden High School, Morton East High School, Proviso East High School, and retiring from Hinsdale South High School.  After retiring he taught at Elmhurst College for several years.  John conducted writing workshops for high school students for many years.  He was a graduate of Streator Township High School, Streator IL, Western Illinois University, and University of Illinois.  He served on the board of Maercker-Holmes School Board for several years.  He was the co-founder of the Phoenix Writers Workshop and a dedicated member of the Riverside Fishing Club.  John was an avid fisherman for much of his life, ready to fish in any lake or river with family and friends.  He especially enjoyed the PPPPP annual fishing trip with his fishing buddies.  He loved sports and coached youth football and baseball teams for many years.  John was a teacher, writer, mentor, and friend to all.

He is survived by his loving wife Elsie, nee Gahm for 61 years; three children, David (Betsy) of Omaha, NE, John (Lety) of Downers Grove, IL, and Dyann (David) Schwanebeck of Lockport, IL; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Lauren) Von Kerens of Fort Worth, TX, William Von Kerens of Avon, CO; Kathryn (Ryan) Haselden of Boston, MA, Paxson Von Kerens of Indianapolis, IN, Anna-Victoria Von Kerens of Downers Grove, IL, David Schwanebeck of McHenry, IL, Derek Schwanebeck of McHenry, IL, and Daniel Schwanebeck of Frisco, CO.

Per John’s wishes, cremation rites were respectfully addressed.

A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in the O’NEIL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 1105 E 9TH STREET, (159TH STREET), LOCKPORT. The family will be meeting at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421, Monday August 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. for the inurnment.

Riverside Fishing Club Members are catching all around the globe. Lake Michigan near Chicago and Temple Bay Lodge in Canada this month. Dan Gallagher with a nice Lake Michigan Salmon, Mel Baranski with a trophy Sheephead and a Temple Bay Smallmouth.

BASS – Robert Bobich – Tournament Angler/Guide

Our Speaker is Robert Bobich – a Coach for the Plainfield South Bass Fishing Team which has qualified 4 teams in the last 12 months for 2 State Championships and Won the Illinois B.A.S.S. Nation 2017 State Championship. Robert has 29 years of Tournament Bass Fishing experience. Robert made the Illinois B.A.S.S. Nation State Team in 2008 and Qualified for the B.A.S.S. Federation Regional Tournament. Robert fished B.A.S.S. Opens, FLW Series, Everstart and BFL as well as Red Man Circuits.
